Getting Started with Payments by InTandem

Payments by inTandem is a fully integrated payment solution that provides your clients the security and convenience they expect when paying your business. inTandem's payment services are specially designed for service-based businesses such as yours.

Getting Started with Payments by inTandem

Who can connect to Payments by inTandem?

The Payments by inTandem gateway currently supports:

  • US-based businesses (Owners are based in the US)
  • Users subscribed to a paid plan (Not in trial or free)
  • Users whose business profession is in the eligible merchant category codes list (See related articles)
Important: Businesses that are not eligible for Payments by inTandem will have the option to connect the product to third-party payment gateways operating in the business' country of origin.

Your merchant category code is defined by your selected profession when first signing up for the product.

To validate your profession:

  1. Open the platform.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Business Info.
  4. Under "Business Description", enter your business category. (Contractor, chiropractor etc.)
  5. At the top of the page, click Save.

Connecting to Payments by inTandem

Before you start connecting, make sure you have the required information available:

  • Legal Business Name as registered with the IRS and/or with the Secretary of State
  • EIN and Legal Name Validation If the business is an LLC or Corporation or has applied for an EIN, refer to your SS4 form (CP 575) obtained from the IRS. If you are the Sole Proprietor of the business, your TIN will be your SSN number.
  • Business Address This is the physical operating address for the business
  • Business Owner/Principal Address This is the personal/residential address of the individual owner
  • Annual Processing Volume
  • Banking information OR a voided check

To connect to Payments by InTandem:

Tip: Filling in all the required information can take some time. You can save a draft during the process by clicking Save in the top corner and continue later.
  1. Open the platform.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Payments.
  4. On the "Accept Online Payments" banner, click Activate Now

  1. Answer the prompts in the "Payment Onboarding Wizard".
  2. Approve the Disclaimer and Terms of Use.

Based on your Merchant category code and business country, Payments by inTandem will provide its payment processing solution or a third-party payment gateway.

  1. Click Settings.
  2. Click Business Info.
  3. Enter your Terms and Policies. 

Payments by inTandem approval takes up to 48 business hours. To start collecting payments, you're required to complete your Terms and Conditions and Privacy policy on your Business Info Settings page.

To change to Payments by InTandem (If already connected to a third-party gateway):

  1. Open the platform.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Sales.
  4. Click Connect.

ACH Payments

ACH (Automated Clearing House) is a secure way for your customers to pay directly from their bank account in the United States. When you enable bank transfer payments, you'll benefit from lower fees and each transfer includes account and fund validation for extra security.

Note: ACH payments can vary in timing and may take 7-10 business days to fully process, appearing as pending until completed.

Enable ACH Payments

Before clients can pay with their bank, you'll need to enable this option first.

To enable ACH payments:

  1. Open the platform.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Click Sales.
  4. Under Bank Payments, check Enable bank payments.
Important: Before enabling ACH, review your terms and fees with your payment provider. 

Pay with ACH at Checkout

Clients can pay with their bank during checkout.

To pay with ACH: 

  1. Go to the Client Portal.
  2. Click Make a Payment or payment link.
  3. Enter the payment details.
  4. Click Checkout.
  5. Select Bank Payment.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. Enter the bank details.
  8. Click Pay.

Processing Time

When you receive your first payment, it typically takes 5 to 7 business days for the funds to appear in your bank account. 

After your first deposit is successfully made, future payments will follow a more predictable schedule:

  • Before 9:00 PM EST: The funds will be deposited into your bank account by the morning of the second business day. For example, a payment processed on Monday at 8:30 PM EST will be deposited by Wednesday morning.

  • After 9:00 PM EST: The funds will arrive in your account by the morning of the third business day. For example, a payment processed on Tuesday at 9:00 PM EST will be deposited by in your account by Friday morning.

Note: This timeframe begins once your total transaction amount reaches $100. Payments will not begin processing until you hit this threshold.

FAQ

Why don't I see the "Accept Online Payments" banner and only see third-party payment gateways?

Payments by inTandem is currently only available in the US for eligible business types, according to supported merchant category codes (See related articles). If you can't see Payments by inTandem, your business is in the US, and your profession is on the list, go to your Business Info Settings Page and update your profession.
